News: Renée Fleming Is Not Retiring From Opera

Renée Fleming

The opera firmament was shaken yesterday when a New York Times article, headlined “The Diva Departs: Renée Fleming’s Farewell to Opera,” landed online.

The lengthy piece gave the impression that Fleming, a beloved star of classical music and one of the most successful sopranos of her generation, was ready to call it quits as far as opera was concerned. Her ostensible final performance would come on May 13 in Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier at New York’s Metropolitan Opera.

The key word here is “may.” Truth be told, Fleming has no plans to quit opera at all.

“I never said that I was stepping away from the opera stage for good. Never, never, never did I say that to anybody,” Fleming insisted in a phone conversation from her home in New York City earlier today.

How To Get Started In Ballet

Lauren Hibbert

1 People tend to think of ballet as something for either children or professional dancers, but adult classes are a great way for men and women to keep fit, tone and stretch. Especially if you hate the repetitive nature of the gym.

2 Flexibility, coordination and balance aren’t prerequisites – they come as a result of ballet. Worrying about trying ballet because you can’t touch your toes is like worrying about going to the gym because you don’t have a six-pack.

3 For most people, standing at the barre, being confronted with their reflection in the mirror can be quite scary. Try to let go of that self-consciousness. In time, looking in that mirror becomes as natural as brushing your teeth.

4 Wear what feels comfortable: tracksuit trousers or leggings and a top. Avoid baggy clothes that might trip you up.

5 One of the most basic steps is the plié. Stand with your heels together and toes pointing out to either side. Keeping your back in a neutral alignment and your chin up, bend at the knees, so they move over the centre of your toes.

Cillian Murphy: It Takes 30 Years To Make An Actor

April 11, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Cillian Murphy

In an interview with The Guardian, Murphy admits that despite his long list of credits he does not yet feel like an actor because of something a director once said to him. He recalls, “A director, I forget who, told me that it takes 30 years to make an actor. And I believe that. You have to learn your craft, learn your trade – and also you have to live a life and experience things. I have been doing this for 20 years now so, hopefully, in another 10 years I will be an actor.”

In fact, Murphy credits much of his success so far to simply being persistent. He explains, “Honestly, if you stick around long enough, don’t make an idiot of yourself and aspire to make good work, people go: ‘All right. He is here to stay.’”

Part of that persistence results from Murphy being solely dedicated to acting ever since his breakthrough. He points out, “I have not been interested in anything else. I know I am old-fashioned, but I don’t want to bring out a fashion line, I don’t want to bring out an album. I just want to do the work as best as I can and if that effects change for somebody, then that is great. I don’t want to change the world.”
