Wim Wenders

The celebrated film director was cheered to the rafters last night in Berlin, at the end of Bizet’s Pearl Fishers. Wenders has been pursued for years by Bayreuth to stage an opera, on one occasion pulling out at the last moment. It took Daniel Barenboim to entice him onto the opera stage, to great acclaim.

News: Renée Fleming Is Not Retiring From Opera

April 12, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Renée Fleming

The opera firmament was shaken yesterday when a New York Times article, headlined “The Diva Departs: Renée Fleming’s Farewell to Opera,” landed online.

The lengthy piece gave the impression that Fleming, a beloved star of classical music and one of the most successful sopranos of her generation, was ready to call it quits as far as opera was concerned. Her ostensible final performance would come on May 13 in Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier at New York’s Metropolitan Opera.

The key word here is “may.” Truth be told, Fleming has no plans to quit opera at all.

“I never said that I was stepping away from the opera stage for good. Never, never, never did I say that to anybody,” Fleming insisted in a phone conversation from her home in New York City earlier today.

[News] Kaufmann is Back After 4-Months Break Caused By Bleeding on his Vocal Cords

The German tenor tells Corriere della Sera that he is ready to return to singing after a four-month break caused by bleeding on his vocal cords.

He expects to appear as Lohengrin in Paris on January 18.

‘It was really tough,’ he says. ‘I love to sing and never before have I been forced to such a long break. It was not easy, but what else could I do? I tried to be patient and do what the doctor prescribed. And ignore the gossip going around about my health…. Christa Ludwig, the great mezzo-soprano, had the same problem. She warned me: Jonas, do not come back to sing before the swelling has completely subsided.’
