From 12 – 21 April 2018, English National Ballet will present the world premiere of a new work by one of the most revered choreographers working today, William Forsythe, his first creation for a UK ballet company in over 20 years.
“For a while now I have wanted to dedicate a programme to the abstract, neoclassical style of ballet that is born out of America” – says Tamara Rojo. “It gives me great pleasure to now be doing so with a new work created especially for us by the genius that is William Forsythe.”

Hailed as ‘a masterpiece of 21st century dance’ from English National Ballet, Akram Khan’s Giselle is released in cinemas for the first time from 25 April 2018, thanks to a collaboration between English National Ballet and digital commissioning agency The Space, giving ballet fans nationwide the opportunity to see this award-winning production in glorious high definition on the big screen. Recognised as one of the greatest romantic ballets, Giselle has been re-imagined by celebrated choreographer Akram Khan, with Artistic Director and Lead Principal of English National Ballet, Tamara Rojo, dancing the role of Giselle, one of a community of migrant workers cast out of their jobs in a condemned garment factory.

English National Ballet’s exciting Bausch / Forsythe / van Manen programme arrives at Sadler’s Wells in March

Pina Bausch was an incredible artist, and remains one of the most influential people in modern culture today. Her work transcends description; it affects you on a deep emotional level, speaking to your spirit and defying logical analysis.
Adding that she was was “truly honoured and humbled” to present the piece in London.

Tamara Rojo is to star in a virtual reality video inspired by Akram Khan’s Giselle, which promises to allow audiences to “experience ballet in an entirely different way”.
The content, called Giselle VR, has been hailed as the beginning of a new way of engaging with audiences and bringing dance to more people.
English National Ballet, of which Rojo is artistic director, has partnered with Sky to create the two-minute piece, a 360-degree video that will become one of the first pieces of content on Sky’s new VR app, launching next month.
In the video, which features original choreography by Khan, users will be able to see Rojo moving around the space, “leaving behind a 3D trail of light and dust which will show the course of her movements”.
