5 Quick Things To Give Your Music Career a Boost

TIP 1: Branding.

Now is the time to do a sweeping update of your social media accounts and website to make sure they reflect what you want and who you are.

TIP 2: Pitching.

TIP 3: Engagement.

Build relationships online by commenting on others’ posts, asking questions about your followers to learn more about them, sharing others’ content, and replying to anything positive.

TIP 4: Money.

Once you get a clear number of the AVERAGE you spend per month and the average you NEED, you’ll be able to get clear on how much you want to generate. Spoiler alert: it may in fact be lower than you think!

TIP 5: Getting It Done.

Do you have a task on your list that is always getting pushed back? Procrastination is one of the biggest barriers to a musician’s success. The fix? Break your big tasks down into specific micro-tasks.

Interview: Jack Spann, Vocalist And Multi-Instrumentalist

Jack Spann

What do you consider to be the most important ideas and concepts to impart to aspiring musicians?

I would say, if you are an instrumentalist, you must practice at least four hours a day, for a period of 3-4 years, until you decide where your career may lie, or not lie. You need to find a support network of people whom you trust. If you’re a composer, you must formally compose 3-4 hours per day. That’s the rule- PLAY. But remember that “playing” an instrument is similar to “playing” when you are a child – you will get bruised, you will get hurt. It might even kill you. That’s why PRACTICE is essential, the more you PRACTICE the less likely you are to be hurt when you PLAY.

The Role Of Parents In The Upbringing Of Children

Lang Lang

When Chinese pianist Lang Lang was just nine years old, his father gave up his job to take his son from their hometown of Shenyang, to audition for the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.

“For three months, I did not have a teacher. So, and I thought my career was over as a pianist, and I should go home,” he told Trailblazers presenter Tania Bryer.

“It was a very difficult time. I mean leaving my mother, coming here, my father quit his job, and we rented the most cheap, the 15 dollar-a-month apartment, and study with a new teacher, with completely different environment. It was very difficult, and I did not really enjoy (it).”

After several months, he got into the Conservatory.

Lang has now sold millions of albums around the world and is an entrepreneur and philanthropist.

Interview: Duet Diana, Vocal Duet

June 19, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Duet Diana

Duet Diana are a classical vocal duet, formed of Sarah Lenney (soprano) and Katie Morel-Orchard (mezzo).

What do you consider to be the most important advice to impart to aspiring or young musicians?
Sarah: Don’t give up, and embrace your quirks – they might be what people remember about you! Stay true to yourself as a performer and take care of yourself, don’t expect perfection but think about really bringing something new to the music instead, and performing honestly.
Katie: Completely agree. I would also say that your physical and mental health is so important and is often overlooked. Working as a performer is a challenge for your self-esteem and it’s hard to keep up creativity and ambition at the same time – we would really recommend paying a visit to ‘The Floatworks’ in Vauxhall for this purpose. We love using that to take a deep breath, release tension in the body and open your mind back up. Georgina Sutton also runs a really inspiring fitness programme specifically for musicians that is innovative and cool.

Stacey Watton

What do you consider to be the most important ideas and concepts to impart to aspiring musicians?

Enthusiasm and love for free feeling… music is what feelings sound like at the end of the day…. technique, rhythm, intonation, all have to be a given and must never get in the way.
