They Were Playing Opera Two Centuries Before Christ

Carved bricks opera

The Gushan Pavilion at the Zhejiang Museum is displaying a series of Jin Dynasty carved bricks, through September 17. The bricks and other exhibits tell the story of the short but powerful dynasty.

The first section introduces a local opera named sanyue(散乐). It originated in the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC), when it was only performed at the royal court. It developed during the Southern and Northern Dynasties (AD 420-589) as it spread through the temples. During the Song Dynasty (960-1279), it spread to cover both urban and rural areas.

Fancy a Cheap Night at The Royal Opera House?

September 8, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

The Royal Opera House

The Royal Opera House is to offer stalls tickets for its most popular productions for as little as £10, rather than the usual £230.

The catch? You won’t actually get a seat. Instead, make yourself comfortable on the floor.

Jane Lynch On Making Money

September 6, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Jane Lynch

Lynch admits that she is still amazed that she gets paid to do what she loves. She says, “It is the most amazing killer job. I love to act; it’s my calling if there’s such a thing.”

Still, Lynch’s career as an actor didn’t really take off until she was over 40 — noting, “I was 40 by the time I started making money at this … and I was happy before that” — an age when many actresses are usually cast in fewer roles, not more. Reflecting on her career, Lynch does see where there have been obstacles. She explains, “I can’t say that being a woman has been an obstacle. Being gay has been an obstacle. Being six feet tall has been an obstacle.”
