“You’re My Celebrity Soulmate”

Are Celebrity Stalkers Different from Other Stalkers?

Yes and no.  Yes, in that the initial relationship (or lack thereof) between the celebrity and the stalker is unlike that of the typical pursuer.  Over 90 percent of “regular” stalking victims are stalked by someone they know, either a former lover, an acquaintance or a family member.   In contrast, the vast majority of celebrity stalkers have never met the object of their obsession; the relationship is entirely based on either delusion (we’re secretly married) or fantasy (if you just met me, you’d realize we were meant to be together).

This may be a reflection of the fact that, unlike stalkers who pursue us common folks, the majority of celebrity stalkers tend to suffer from a major mental illness such asschizophrenia or erotomania.

 The Bottom Line

Today’s celebrities are often caught between a rock and a hard place.  The social engagement with the public that is increasingly expected as part of their promotion of productions and projects can fuel the flames of a disturbed psyche.  This is especially true in the pseudo-intimacy of cyberspace.

While it’s hard to get statistics on celebrity stalking, it appears to be on the rise; in aninterview with L.A. Management Unit detective Mary Lopez, she revealed that 20% of her current stalking caseload involves celebrities, in comparison to 10% in 2008.  And more than 90% are internet-related.  There’s no denying the perks that fame and money bring; but for those who are pursued by a relentless fan, celebritydom can feel like a suffocating castle sieged by an enemy.

The Choreographer of “Cats” And “Hamilton” On Trusting Your Creative Instincts

How did you first get into the arts?

I grew up in Cincinnati. I remember doing art projects, and I would see such big ideas, but I would only be able to accomplish a draft of it. I always bit off more than I could chew.

With Hamilton, did you ever feel you bit off more than you could chew?

It’s the biggest story I’ve ever told, and the most choreography I’ve ever done. Though I spent less time working on it than I did with Bring It On or In The Heights because Hamilton came to me so evolved already.

In life? What are some examples there?

Later in the show, the family themes. I have two kids, and while creatingHamilton, my daughter was fighting cancer. The whole second act has such resonance for me. It was hard for me to choreograph, it hit so close to home when Hamilton’s son is dying. One of the most simplistic moments in the show is also one of my favorite moments, when Hamilton gets shot in the end. Two men slide next to him and row him across the Hudson. That hit me like a thunderbolt. I can always feel myself carrying my daughter to the hospital. So those things became less about the choreography and more about events that hit home. (Blankenbuehler’s daughter has since recovered.)

Is There Any Perfect Ballet Body?

October 4, 2016 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Perfect Ballet Body

Your body is perfect.

Whether you feel that way about it, or not, your body is complete. Even if you are missing part of it, you´re still a complete human, a closed system.

What a beautiful thing to consider.

So this passionate lady who emailed me feeling utterly imperfect, what if instead of asking, ¨How can I change my imperfect body to become a better dancer?¨, she asked, ¨What if my body is perfect the way it is for dancing my best?¨

The first question will limit you. The second, if you can honestly contemplate it, will start to get you somewhere.

Your body IS complete… Nothing can change about your body until you can change the way you feel about it. Understand how it is already serving you to perfection.
