Which Stories Could Make Opera More Mainstream?

August 15, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Opera stories

There are no real answers, of course, and all of the following ideas are unlikely. But they’re interesting to think about if you’re intrigued by the idea of a more widely popular brand of opera.

“Game Of Thrones”

It certainly seems that “Game Of Thrones” can do no wrong. There’s no word at this stage of “Game Of Thrones” actually being turned into an opera, but we have heard an interesting cover of the opening theme music in opera form, and it’s actually terrific. This could be a big and wonderful idea.

“Jekyll & Hyde”

This is another sort of old world tale that, in terms of costuming and general atmosphere, can have a presentation not unlike “The Phantom Of The Opera.” It’s already a successful musical and already seems to be making something of a pop culture comeback.

“The BFG”

We’ll close things out with a particularly fun one. This was actually suggested at Schmopera in an article on five books that should become operas, and while it would definitely be unconventional it could also be the best way to get children interested in the performance style

Tenor Riccardo Massi On His Quick Rise & Favorite Composer

August 11, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Riccardo Massi

While most opera singers study opera and simply concentrate on it throughout their college years, Massi had a unique journey while he was developing his voice. He was stuntman on many Hollywood productions including the Academy Award nominee “Gangs Of New York” by Martin Scorsese and the HBO hit series “Rome.”

“I  was involved in martial arts including Karate and Judo and free fighting. And one of my big passions has always been medieval weapons. So when I moved to Rome I found this teacher and he was also working in Cine Città which is the Italian Hollywood,” he revealed in an interview with OperaWire. “During that time period, a lot of Hollywood productions were in Rome. So they needed guys to perform stunts and I started to train with my teacher and we started to do this job.”

Opera Australia

A major event on the Sydney calendar for six years now, the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, in partnership with Destination NSW, will stage Puccini’s La Bohème, from March 23-April 22, 2018). Andy Morton, who directed this year’s Carmen, will also direct this new production. With a stage floating in the harbor, and fireworks galore bursting over the opera house and Sydney skyline, the event is a huge crowd pleaser. Mostly in pop-up style, top food and drink establishments serve their finest flavors as well.

Nino Machaidze Brings Vocal Beauty To Rossini’s ‘The Siege Of Corinth’

Nino Machaidze

After nine years of an immensely successful career, Nino Machaidze has forged a unique path that has led her to stand out in not only the war horses in the operatic canon but also in rare operas.

This week she continues to her set herself apart as Machaidze makes her role debut as Pamira in “Le siège de Corinthe” at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. It’s a role that Beverly Sills famously took on at the Metropolitan Opera and one that is known for its coloratura demands as well as its long lyric lines.
