Sophie Turner on Falling in Love with Acting

October 3, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Sophie Turner

Turner was introduced to acting at a very young age and fell in love with it. She says, “My mom putting me into a one hour acting group on a Saturday because she wanted some time to herself. She sent me off with all of my friends and we all did this acting class and we all ended up loving it, just completely falling in love. It ended up being kind of like our church. We were so dedicated to it. It was like a haven for me.”

Turner looks at playing Sansa as a rare opportunity to progress within a character over a long period of time. She reveals, “It has been such a blessing. Normally you play a character for a month or so, and then you are done with it, but to be able to flesh out a character for over eight or so years has been really amazing. She’s a project that I really feel is part of me now. Everything that happens to her affects me. I have kind of been living through two people for the past eight years.”

Ron Cephas Jones on ‘This Is Us’

Ron Cephas

Jones believes that the foundation of the character came from the writing, and his performance helped strengthen the material. He says, “I trusted that Dan [Fogelman] was going to take that character in a direction that was going to be layered, and deeper than what’s on the surface of it. I also knew that as an actor, I could bring something that was deeper and layered, and I think it worked both ways. When they saw that, they realized they could also be deeper and have more layers, because I understood how to carry those layers, and where they came from. There are nuances in the character of William that are directly pulled from my life, and my life experience. They’re very subtle and small little moments—detail-y things that happen—but there was room for that, so I didn’t have to worry about that. It wasn’t a cliché role, right from the beginning. You might think it would be, but it turned out that it was fuller than I could even imagine.”

Workshop for Actors

DATE: November 24-25, 2017

PLACE:

Max Reinhardt Seminar

University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna – MDW (Austria)

HOSTED BY: Giuseppe Ravì, Founder and Master Coach of Respiro e Movimento®

WORKSHOP:

Respiro e Movimento® is pleased to announce a Workshop for Actors at Max Reinhardt Seminar, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

Actors will have the opportunity to work with Giuseppe Ravì, Master Coach and expert in restoring the natural balance and harmony in the human body. The main objective of his workshop is for artists to achieve a deeper connection with themselves.

They will become aware of unnecessary muscular tensions which prohibit the overall ease required in acting.

The result is clear: an overall freedom and strengthening of the essential body movements which enable the artist to physically surpass obstacles which may seem impossible. Actors will learn how to overcome useless contractions and muscle memory, allowing them to feel more centered and act in a more natural, light, free and efficient way.

Check out the testimonials here.

Sterling K. Brown on Becoming an Actor

September 26, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Sterling K Brown

Brown didn’t initially pursue acting as a career. It took more encouragement from others to convince him that this was the right path for him. He continues, “I go to Stanford and I’m an economics major, not thinking I’m going to do anything with acting. A professor came to the dorm where I lived looking for people to audition for an August Wilson play, Joe Turner’s Come And Gone. I gave it a shot, got one of the lead roles in the play. He said, ‘Look, I know you’re not looking to major in this, but you should keep auditioning. I think you could have some fun with it, and the department would benefit from your presence.’ Every time I’d do a play, my grades would get better because I was doing something that fed my soul. It took me a couple of years to recognize that the hobby was actually the calling.”

‘Stranger Things’ Star Shannon Purser on Getting Cast as Barb

September 25, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Shannon Purser

Purser reveals that Stranger Things was the first time casting directors took her seriously — and it has obviously changed her life. She explains, “I was about 15 when I decided that acting was what I wanted to pursue professionally. I’d been doing theater since I was a kid and signed with an agency, and I’d gotten familiar with doing auditions. I had never booked anything, gotten close calls, and then one day I got an email about this new show called Stranger Things, asking for a tape. I taped my audition, had a really fun time doing it and sent it in, but didn’t really think anything would come of it until they said they wanted me to come in and read for the Duffer Brothers. That’s when I really auditioned for the first time. They emailed me that night and said I’d gotten the part, which was the craziest day of my life.”

Richard Dreyfuss on Winning an Oscar

September 21, 2017 By Respiro E Movimento · Follow us: Facebook · Twitter · Instagram · YouTube

Richard Dreyfuss

While most actors say they felt validated after winning an Oscar, Dreyfuss admits that he felt like he made worse choices after winning one. He reveals, “It probably made me turn down some things I would probably not have thought of turning down had I not won the award. You’re riskier when you’re on the hunt.”

Of course, even Oscar-winners like Dreyfuss face challenges — and many of them are internal and ego-driven. He explains, “I’d been acting since I was 9. So, sure, I had my years of apprenticing. And while I was never uncertain I would finally succeed, I did have my years of bad acting and losing jobs before I ever became prominent in the public eye. I also had a firm grasp on a great sense of denial. I kept thinking I was the greatest actor since cottage cheese, and then when I looked back at the work I was doing at that time, I thought, ‘Holy moly, why didn’t they just lock me up and throw away the key?’”
