[News] Vienna State Opera 2017-18 Live Stream: Angela Gheorghiu Takes Center Stage in Solo Recital

The Vienna State Opera will take an interesting step away from its usual programming to showcase a live recital by Angela Gheorghiu on March 7, 2018.

The stream kicks off at 8 p.m. local time and is slated to run until around 10 p.m. That’s around 2 p.m. EDT and 11 a.m. PST for the start time.

While tickets start at 14 euros (approximately $16 USD) for most live streams, this one is special as it will be completely free of charge. All viewers must do is register with the website to enjoy this performance.

Riccardo Muti will return to the Vienna State Opera for the first time in 12 years.

During a press conference at the historic Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Director of the Vienna State Opera, Dominique Meyer, along with the General Director and the Artistic Director of the Teatro San Carlo Rosanna Purchia and Paolo Pinamonti announced a joint project between both houses that will see Muti conducting.

Simon Keenlyside is slated to be named a Kammersänger at the Vienna State Opera next Monday.

The title of Kammersänger is given to distinguished singers of opera and classical music and historically, the title was bestowed by princes or kings. The title is given in Germany and in Austria usually on the recommendation of relevant national and local institutions.

Soprano Anna Netrebko was recently given the title of Kammersängerin a few months ago.
